Several years ago, the Minol-ZENNER Group started with an idea: to create a network that would serve as the basis for energy-efficient and resilient solutions. Today, this has become the world's largest LoRaWAN® network. Over 10 million sensors are now active, automatically measuring consumption and building data.

2016
The Internet of Things (IoT) is making its way into the Minol-ZENNER Group.
The LoRaWAN® radio technology is becoming the technology of choice for the future and, thanks to its long range and low energy consumption, is ideally suited to the requirements of smart cities, energy suppliers and the housing industry.
Member of the LoRa Alliance®
In the same year, we joined the LoRa Alliance® as one of its first members and have been actively working on the further development of the LoRaWAN® standard ever since. The LoRa Alliance® is a global association of companies that develops, standardizes, and promotes the open LoRaWAN® protocol.
2017
The first sensor in the LoRaWAN® network
The first LoRaWAN®-enabled measuring devices are being developed and installed by the Minol-ZENNER Group. Sensor number 1 is a smoke detector from Minol.

2018
Founding of ZENNER Connect
With the founding of ZENNER Connect (then Minol ZENNER Connect), the group of companies becomes a LoRaWAN® network operator with registration at the Federal Network Agency.
Brunata Denmark acquisition
In the same year, the acquisition of the Danish company Brunata followed. The Minol-ZENNER Group became the world's third-largest metering service provider. The LoRaWAN® network is now also expanding internationally.
Birth of Minol Connect
Minol is beginning to roll out its new LoRaWAN®-based wireless system, Minol Connect, in the housing sector. Water and heat meters, as well as heat cost allocators and smoke detectors, will be read via the Internet of Things.
2019/2020
The LoRaWAN® network is growing and growing.
The company is expanding its LoRaWAN® activities internationally. The network already comprises several million devices.

The new Heating Costs Ordinance (HKVO)
The new German Heating Cost Ordinance (HKVO) will be passed at the end of 2021. The mandatory remote meter reading can be optimally implemented using LoRaWAN®.
2024
World's largest LoRaWAN® network
The Minol-ZENNER Group operates the world's largest LoRaWAN® network – with approximately eight million networked measuring devices and sensors. This milestone will be presented by the LoRa Alliance® at their LoRaWAN® Live event in Munich.

We have integrated the 10 millionth sensor into our network!
LoRaWAN® has now established itself worldwide, and we currently operate our LoRaWAN® network in 15 countries. Besides Europe, these include the United Arab Emirates, the USA, and parts of Asia.
Currently, the group of companies is among the international pioneers in the digitalization of the housing industry and the Smart City.
LoRaWAN® in the housing industry
With its LoRaWAN®-based wireless system Minol Connect, Minol now has over seven million wireless devices in operation, transmitting their data to more than 110.000 gateways. Landlords and property managers can access all data and manage their properties quickly and easily via the web-based application Minol direct – digitally and in compliance with the German Heating Cost Ordinance (HKVO).

What is LoRaWAN®?
LoRaWAN® stands for Long Range Wide Area Network. It is a wireless technology specifically designed to transmit small amounts of data over long distances. This makes it ideal for transmitting data from measuring devices and sensors. LoRaWAN® operates reliably, consumes very little energy, and works even in hard-to-reach locations, such as basements, utility shafts, or behind thick walls. This is precisely what makes it so attractive for the housing industry.
Within the Minol-ZENNER Group network, devices can be easily read remotely. This saves time and travel. At the same time, the system meets all the requirements of the German Heating Costs Ordinance (Heizkostenverordnung). Smart sensors can also monitor the indoor climate, potential leaks, and other important factors for smart building management.
