nikkimeel - stock.adobe.com /Since January 2022, landlords and property managers in properties with wireless meter readings have been required by the German Heating Costs Ordinance (HKVO) to provide their tenants with monthly consumption information. Minol now offers the new Minol App for this purpose, which – enhanced with new features – replaces the previous app. One key focus is monitoring one's own CO₂ emissions.
Leinfelden-Echterdingen, February 2025: The goal is clear: Germany aims to become climate-neutral by 2045. The focus is now shifting from the consumption of individual sectors to total emissions. Building owners, managers, and tenants can only reduce their own CO₂ consumption and contribute to climate neutrality if they know how much heating energy and hot water they actually use on a daily basis.
The requirement for interim consumption information (uVI) for properties with remote meter reading has been in effect for three years now. A recent survey shows that investments in this area are having an impact: A clear majority of 65 percent of the tenants surveyed consider the regular consumption information helpful for saving energy. Participants cited the prevention of unpleasant surprises in the annual statement and the help in saving costs as particular added value. Minol offers a comprehensive package for implementing uVI, consisting of remotely readable metering technology, Minol eMonitoring, and the Minol app for tenants.
Minol App: Provides information throughout the year in accordance with the German HVAC Ordinance (HKVO).
With Minol eMonitoring, property managers can view current consumption data for each property and also set up and activate personal access for their tenants. "With Minol's eMonitoring, property managers and landlords can digitally and legally implement the legal requirements of the German Heating Costs Ordinance (Heizkostenverordnung) regarding the utility billing information for tenants," explains Frank Hinderer, Product Manager for Billing at Minol. Through their own access to the Minol online portal or via the Minol app, tenants gain an overview of their individual consumption figures for heating, hot water, and cold water. The impact of their own consumption patterns becomes directly transparent: "The new app directly encourages residents to react to high consumption and reduce their own energy use. In this way, they not only lower their costs but also actively contribute to environmental protection and the avoidance of CO₂ emissions," says Marcel Gerstner, Team Leader for Digital Products & App at Minol, regarding the Minol app.
The Minol app offers various views of consumption trends and visualizes comparisons to the previous year and average values. Additional features for effective energy consumption monitoring include: an overview of your own CO₂ emissions, a simulation of energy consumption when adjusting room temperature, and the ability to set and track your own consumption targets. The app identifies untapped savings potential for the user, thus promoting the responsible use of resources.
The Minol app can be downloaded from the App Store and the Google Play Store after activation by the landlord.
