Smart City SystemIn cooperation with Smart City System Parking Solutions GmbH, the Minol-ZENNER Group is expanding its digitalization portfolio with a new smart parking solution. According to traffic experts, around 30 percent of traffic volume and the associated CO₂ emissions in city centers are caused by the search for a suitable parking space.
Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Fürth, March 2023: The cooperation between the Minol-ZENNER Group and Smart City System Parking Solutions GmbH has been in place since October 2022. The focus is on implementing a smart parking solution that guarantees optimal utilization of parking spaces and significantly reduces inefficient parking searches. "Smart parking offers innovative, exciting, and sustainable applications, especially for the housing industry," explains Eberhard Wendel, Product Manager at Minol Messtechnik W. Lehmann GmbH & Co. KG. The concept thus integrates perfectly into the Minol-ZENNER Group's digitalization portfolio. In this collaboration, the group represents its role as a digitalization specialist. As a "digitalization guide for the housing industry," Minol has already implemented digital solutions in tens of thousands of properties and has incorporated this experience into the project.
A digital twin of the parking spaces enables data-driven decisions.
As part of the collaboration, Smart City System supplies the corresponding parking sensors as well as the technology for data collection and processing. "Thanks to their modular design, the Smart City System sensors can be installed quickly and maintained at any time. We also offer a full-service package that includes sensor installation and maintenance, as well as a proprietary platform for visualization and data provision," explains Stefan Eckart, Managing Director of Smart City System Parking Solutions GmbH. This platform, the Smart City System Dashboard, creates a digital twin of the parking lot, allowing users to view and manage available and occupied parking spaces in real time. Data is collected by the sensor, which then transmits it to the platform via the mobile network. Smart City System offers its solution based on LoRa or NarrowBand-IoT (NB-IoT).
The sensor system can be reliably used both outdoors and in parking garages or underground parking facilities. In addition to the dashboard view, further applications can be implemented via Smart City System apps, such as a digital parking guidance system specifically tailored to cities or businesses (CityPilot App and OfficePilot App) as well as comprehensive parking space monitoring (TicketPilot App). The apps are free for users.
Booking and reserving parking spaces in residential areas
The applications of smart parking range from public and private parking areas and parking garages to electric vehicle charging stations. Efficient utilization and monitoring of all parking spaces are guaranteed, and unused spaces can be flexibly used by other road users until, for example, residents return home from work. Based on the determined occupancy, new rental and sharing options for parking spaces become possible thanks to parking space monitoring. "In residential areas, smart parking can be used, for example, to book and reserve individual parking spaces," explains Eberhard Wendel. "Tenants can see which spaces are still available via the Smart City System platform and book them directly for a specific period."
The potential applications of smart parking solutions are diverse. They can also be used in the area of security, for example, to monitor escape routes such as fire department access roads.
