Version from December 2018
The revision process for DIN 14676 was completed in July 2018. The amended standard came into force in December 2018. It is available in two parts and can be obtained from Beuth Verlag at [website address]. https://www.beuth.de/de can be obtained:
- DIN 14676-1: Planning, installation, operation and maintenance (application standard)
- DIN 14676-2: Requirements for the service provider (service standard)
Application standard DIN 14676-1
Maintenance
The explanation of relevant terms has been expanded and clarified. For example, earlier versions of DIN 14676 used the term "maintenance" as well as "servicing" and vice versa. The term "maintenance" is now clearly defined in the revised DIN standard and now encompasses...
- the inspection,
- the maintenance and
- the repair
Normative significance of maintenance
| Bisher | New | Change |
| a. Inspection and maintenance b. Functional testing of warning signals | Inspection | Summarized as an inspection and expanded in content |
| Battery replacement | Maintenance | Battery/accumulator replacement = maintenance |
| repair | New separate point referring to suitable measures regarding the protection goal of smoke detectors | |
| Replacing the smoke detector | Replacing the smoke detector | "according to manufacturer's specifications" added |
Smoke detector design and inspection procedures
The new standard divides smoke detectors into three types:
- Construction method ASmoke detectors without remote inspection
- Construction method B: Smoke detectors with partial remote inspection (not relevant due to the existing Brunata Minol device technology)
- Construction type CSmoke detectors with complete remote inspection (e.g. Minoprotect 3 radio or Minoprotect 4 radio)
This clarifies the DIN compliance of remote inspection of smoke detectors.
Expansion of the informative appendices
The following topics have been added to the appendices:
- Application of network-enabled smoke detectors in “smart home systems”
- Use of additional detectors, such as carbon monoxide detectors or heat detectors
- Information for people with special needs
- Subdivision into 3 smoke detector designs and their inspection options
Service standard DIN 14676-2
The second part of DIN 14676 deals with the qualification of service providers. This point was already part of the DIN standard. However, since qualification measures may no longer be described in application standards, this separation was made. This section describes the proof of competence and the associated requirements for the service provider. The significant role of service specialists is thus emphasized.
