External heat detection for electronic heat cost allocators Minometer® M6/M7/M8

Minol Minometer® M6, M7, and M8 electronic heat cost allocators, including their respective radio versions, feature intelligent external heat detection to suppress unwanted summer readings. A special summer algorithm was developed for the heat cost allocator, the basic functions of which are described here.

The principle of a heating system is based on the fact that the heating surface is warmer than the room, and therefore the radiator heats the room. Heating operation can only occur when the radiator is warmer than the room.

However, if the room is warmer than the radiator and heats up faster than the radiator (this is the case, for example, in summer when the room air in an attic apartment heats up considerably due to high ambient temperatures), then the room "heats" the radiator even though the heating is not on. In such a case, the meter reading on the radiator should not increase. The electronic Minol heat cost allocators Minometer® M6, M7, and M8 recognize this condition as external heat and suppress the meter reading.

If a room has warmed up due to prolonged exposure to external heat sources (sunlight, wood-burning stove, etc.), and the radiator is generally colder than the room, this is registered and stored by the Minol Minometer® M6, M7, and M8 electronic heat cost allocators. This is either due to the described external heat source or because the room sensor has been tampered with.

Function of the summer algorithm in the heat cost allocator

If the Minometer® M6/M7/M8 remembers that it previously detected external heat, the device suppresses the counting progress.

Room temperature 19 degrees

Example 1: Classic heating operation

The heating surface is warmer than the room. The heating system is clearly in operation, and a consumption indicator is displayed.

Room temperature 20 to 29 degrees

Example 2: Summer heat

The room is warmer than the heating surface and heats up faster than the heating surface. This means: no heating operation and no energy consumption display.

Room temperature 22 degrees

Example 3: Heating temperature above 40°C

A heating surface temperature above 40°C means immediate counter progress, regardless of the room temperature.

In summary: Summer algorithm for heat cost allocators

Intelligent heat cost allocators detect extreme solar radiation, for example in attic apartments, and do not display any consumption.

If the room cools down relatively quickly at night during a summer day, the radiator, however, remains warm for longer. The Minometer® M6/M7/M8 heat cost allocator "senses" a warm radiator and a cold room – seemingly a classic case of heating operation.

The Minometer® M6/M7/M8 now "remembers" that it was heated by an external heat source throughout the day and continues to suppress the display progress. This happens over a longer period, preventing a sudden switch to a simulated heating mode with counter progress.

However, if the radiator temperature rises above 40 °C, the Minometer® M6/M7/M8 immediately starts counting again and clears the memory for external heat detection.
