Good news for the heat meter replacement cycle in measuring points with existing immersion sleeves: The tolerance regulation, originally limited to October 30, 2016, has been extended until October 2026 by a resolution of the General Assembly for Calibration.
The immersion sleeves with lengths up to 60 mm, which continue to be tolerated, and the heat meter types or temperature sensor pairs that can be used with them, are listed in the list of tolerated products published by the German National Metrology Institute (PTB, Department 7.5). The respective MID type examination certificate and the company name are listed there.
The current list of approved immersion sleeves includes approximately 60 different immersion sleeves. The most up-to-date list can be downloaded directly from the PTB (German National Metrology Institute) as an Excel file via this link :
Even the smallest measurement differences can add up to large errors.
If replacing existing immersion sleeves, for example with more modern ball valves for direct temperature sensor installation, would only be possible with disproportionately high costs, they can continue to be used until October 2026. However, the operating and design limits of the respective heat meters must be observed.

This type examination description covers the types
- C5-ISF (Version with single-jet flow sensor)
- C5-CMF (Version with measuring capsule flow sensor) as well as
- C5-IUF (Version with ultrasonic flow sensor)
and is tolerated for most of the listed immersion sleeves.
A useful immersion sleeve identification set with three measuring sleeves (5,0 mm / 5,2 mm / 6,0 mm) for determining the inner diameter of the immersion sleeve, including a sturdy marking plate, is available from Minol under article number 137382.
