Brunata a/sThe German company is thus opening up new sales markets for the IoT networking of buildings. It will become the third largest metering and billing service provider in Europe and the world.
July 2018: Minol-ZENNER is expanding – and in doing so, is essentially taking a step back into the future. The Danish company Brunata International a/s is becoming part of the group. Both parties signed a corresponding agreement on July 8th in Copenhagen. In a sense, Brunata Minol is thus acquiring its own origins, as its core business, heating cost accounting, originated from Brunata Wärmemesser Werner Lehmann GmbH & Co., founded in Stuttgart in 1952 as a licensee of the Danish Brunata International a/s. The two companies have maintained continuous contact since then. "With the acquisition of Brunata International a/s by the Minol-ZENNER Group, what belongs together is coming together again," says Eva Fischer Hansen, CEO of Brunata International a/s. "This allows us to remain a family business with strong roots and a clear growth strategy."
The Minol-ZENNER Group is now the third-largest provider of submetering solutions in Europe and worldwide. With this acquisition, the group also assumes a leading position in the Scandinavian market and is expanding its business into other European countries with approximately 600.000 additional residential units. However, heating cost billing is no longer the group's sole focus: it is now concentrating on networking properties and building automation systems via wireless technology and the Internet of Things.
Minol-ZENNER employs 3.200 people worldwide and generated sales of approximately €322 million in 2017. Brunata International a/s is now contributing an additional 300 employees across Europe and sales of €40 million. All employees of Brunata International a/s and the management team will be retained, and the company will continue to operate under the same name. Digitalization of the real estate and utility industries
The acquisition reflects two strategies that Minol-ZENNER has been pursuing for several years: digitalization and growth – both organically and through investments, start-ups, and acquisitions. "We support the real estate and utilities industries worldwide in digitalizing their processes and implementing scenarios such as smart metering, smart living, and smart cities," the company stated. Energy-efficient and with a long range, LoRaWAN™ connects utility meters and many other sensor-equipped devices in buildings and cities. This enables web-based applications for end users, property managers, energy suppliers, and municipalities. Monitoring, controlling, and billing energy consumption are just as possible on this basis as smart city applications – such as intelligent waste disposal, lighting, and parking systems, or traffic safety solutions.
Ready for the smart meter rollout
And the networking of these technologies is only just beginning. The EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) was recently adopted. Here, too, Brunata Minol benefits from the experience of the Danish company, because in Germany, for example, installed meters and cost allocators are to be remotely readable from 2020 onwards, so that residents can be regularly informed about their energy consumption. Denmark is playing a pioneering role here: The new EED has already been largely implemented there, and residents can already view their energy consumption on a daily basis. "Denmark is far ahead of us in the areas of green energy, energy saving, and energy management. The smart meter rollout, which is still pending for us in Germany, has long been completed there. Like Brunata Minol, Brunata International a/s holds important patents in the field of heat cost allocators and has often been a pioneer in its more than 100-year history – for example, as one of the first providers of heat cost allocators.
