Should the device trigger a false alarm, first perform a smoke detector test. If a fault is still indicated, inform your contact person or the building manager. Under no circumstances should you open the device yourself. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.

Smoke detector test to check functionality

Mute your Minoprotect 3 + 4 radio smoke detector

• In case of an unwanted alarm triggered by excessive kitchen smoke or steam, the smoke detector can be silenced.
• In such an alarm, the red LED on the detector's housing flashes rapidly.
• Press the large test button to silence the smoke alarm for approximately 10 minutes.
• Muting the alarm reduces its sensitivity. However, the alarm is still active!
• After ten minutes, the smoke detector returns to its normal operating state.

The smoke detector is sounding an alarm. Here's the correct procedure.

Stay calm. Check all rooms for signs of fire.

If you can rule out a fire

• Activate the mute function by pressing the test button (e.g., with a broom handle). The signal tone will be suppressed for approximately ten minutes.
• Ventilate the room thoroughly. Once the potential cause has been eliminated by ventilation, the smoke detector will return to normal operation after approximately ten minutes.
• If the detector continues to emit a beep or visual signals (LED), there is a malfunction. Use the table below to determine the specific malfunction.

If you detect a fire

• Immediately bring yourself and all other residents to safety.
• Call the fire department on 112.
• Only attempt to extinguish the fire if it is contained.
• Do not attempt to fight a growing fire yourself.

How to use smoke detectors correctly. Here's what you should know.

Smoke detectors detect developing fires early and warn you of the impending danger in time. Therefore, ensure your devices are functioning correctly – for your own safety!

Do not change the installation location:

• The installation locations for smoke detectors are specified in the State building regulations The regulations for each federal state are binding and described in more detail in the application standard DIN 14676. Therefore, the detectors must not be removed from their original mounting location and installed elsewhere.
• When changing the use of rooms, for example, if a former study without a smoke detector becomes a children's room, we strongly recommend retrofitting a smoke detector. In this case, please contact your property management company or landlord.

Protect from damage and contamination:

• Damaged or contaminated smoke detectors can trigger false alarms. See also the adjacent information "Avoiding False Alarms".
• Contact with aerosols (e.g., canned spray), water, cleaning agents, nicotine deposits, and insect contamination can impair the functionality of the detector.
• Remove external dirt with a slightly damp cloth. NO Clean with a vacuum cleaner! Dust and lint are best removed with a statically charged duster.

Avoid false alarms:

• If smoke or dust particles enter the smoke chamber in high concentrations, the smoke detector will trigger an alarm. This can happen during renovation work, for example, when fine dust is generated by drilling or sanding. Painted detectors also lose their functionality. Therefore, ensure that the devices are removed or covered during this time.
• After completing the work, check the functionality of the detector by performing a function test and verifying the accessibility of the smoke entry openings. If you have temporarily removed the smoke detector, it must be reinstalled in its original mounting location.
• False alarms can also be triggered if heavy smoke or steam from the kitchen or bathroom enters other rooms equipped with smoke detectors. This can be avoided by, for example, keeping the kitchen door closed while cooking.
• If an alarm is triggered, the smoke detector can be silenced using the large test button. It is important that you then ventilate your apartment thoroughly.
• Muting the alarm does not affect its functionality. It will function fully again afterwards.

If a fire should break out, prepare yourself.

• Every resident should familiarize themselves with the signal tone of the smoke detector so that the signal tone is recognized as such.
• Discuss the escape route with all residents and walk it together. In an emergency, a practiced escape route can be lifesaving.
• Escape routes must be kept clear. Therefore, ensure at all times that they are not obstructed and that you are not prevented from quickly leaving the building.
• Before opening a door in an emergency, carefully test it with your hands (caution: risk of burns!). If the door feels hot, there could be a fire behind it. Keep the door closed and find another escape route. Opening the door could fan the flames and cause air to spread.
• Don't waste time gathering personal belongings. They can be replaced, your life cannot!
• Inform all residents and leave the building as quickly as possible.
• Take refuge in the stairwell.
  • Warn your roommates or neighbors.
  • Leave the house.
  • Choose the Emergency number 112.
• If the escape route in the stairwell is blocked, remain calm and do not panic.
  • Go back into the apartment and close the apartment door.
  • If possible, seal the gap under the apartment door with a damp blanket or similar material.
  • Choose the Emergency call 112.
  • Wait at the window for the fire department.
