Minoprotect II smoke detector

Explanation of the functions and error messages of your smoke detectors with tips for self-testing and muting in case of false alarms.

Disorders

Should the device trigger a false alarm, first perform a smoke detector test. If a fault is still indicated, inform your contact person or the building manager. Under no circumstances should you open the device yourself. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.

Smoke detector test

To perform the self-test, the smoke detector must be properly attached to the base plate.

  • Briefly press and release the test button.
  • The acoustic alarm, consisting of two cycles, each with three loud beeps, must sound and then stop automatically.
  • The red indicator light on the smoke detector must flash rapidly during the playback of the acoustic signal.
  • The red LED on the front of the smoke detector should now flash once every 40 seconds to indicate that it is activated.
  • The smoke detector should be tested regularly, ideally once a week.

Caution: The electronic test button checks the entire smoke detector. Therefore, do not attempt to test the detector with an open flame or fire.

How to avoid false alarms

  • A smoke detector triggers an alarm when smoke or dust particles enter the smoke chamber at a certain concentration. This can also occur during renovation work if fine dust is generated by drilling, painting, or sanding and enters the measuring chamber. Therefore, when carrying out renovations, ensure that the smoke detector is removed or temporarily covered during this time.
  • Painted smoke detectors lose their functionality.
  • False alarms can also be triggered if smoke (e.g., from frying) or steam from the kitchen or bathroom enters other rooms equipped with smoke detectors. This can be avoided by, for example, keeping the kitchen door closed while cooking.
  • Disabling the false alarm does not affect the functionality of the device. The smoke detector will then be fully functional again.
  • Should an alarm be triggered, the smoke detector can be silenced using the "mute" button. It is important to ventilate your home thoroughly after pressing the mute button.

What to do if problems occur?

Should the device trigger a seemingly unfounded alarm or beep occasionally, first test the smoke detector. To do this, press the button in the center. If a fault is still indicated, please inform us immediately.

Muting the Minoprotect II

Muting the Minoprotect II

In the event of an unwanted alarm triggered by kitchen or water vapors, the smoke detector can be conveniently silenced for approximately 10 minutes using the alarm stop button. During this time, the red LED will flash approximately once every 10 seconds. Silencing the alarm is very easy, for example, with a broom handle, and reduces the smoke detector's sensitivity. However, the smoke detector remains active! If muted due to a false alarm, the alarm will reset after 10 minutes, restoring normal operation.

Important instructions

The installation locations for smoke detectors are legally binding and regulated by the application standard DIN 14676. Smoke detectors must therefore not be removed from their original mounting location and installed elsewhere. The purpose of smoke detectors is to detect fires early through smoke development and warn you of the impending danger in time. For your own safety, ensure that your smoke detector is functioning correctly. Painting over, wallpapering over, or covering the smoke detector will cause malfunctions or even device failure. Smoke detectors must not come into contact with aerosols, water, or cleaning agents. Nicotine and insect residue can trigger false alarms. Smoke detectors cannot provide protection if, for example, someone smokes in bed, children play with open flames, or in the event of explosions caused by escaping gas. Remove external dirt with a slightly damp cloth. The installation of smoke detectors can only be one component of a comprehensive fire protection plan. Smoke detectors are not a substitute for any type of insurance. When renovating, please note: Covering the smoke detector can impair its functionality. Painter's tape is recommended for this purpose. Therefore, after all work is completed, be sure to check the smoke detector's functionality: perform a function test and check the accessibility of the smoke entry openings. If you have temporarily removed the smoke detector, it must be reinstalled in its original location. If the room's use changes, the installation location must be reviewed by Brunata Minol.
