Explanation of the functions and error messages of your smoke detectors with tips for self-testing and muting in case of false alarms.

Disorders

Should the device trigger a false alarm, first perform a smoke detector test. If a fault is still indicated, inform your contact person or the building manager. Under no circumstances should you open the device yourself. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.

Smoke detector test of the Minoprotect 3

To perform the self-test, the smoke detector must be properly attached to the base plate. It will not work with the smoke detector removed.

  • The red LED on the front of the smoke detector should now flash once every 46 seconds to indicate that it is activated.
  • Function test by briefly pressing the test button. Press and release the test button briefly. The smoke detector is working correctly if it emits two short beeps in succession and the red LED flashes in rhythm with them.
  • If no fault is found, the smoke detector will return to its original operating mode.
  • The smoke detector should be tested regularly. We recommend doing this once a month.

Pressing the test button checks the entire smoke detector. Therefore, please do not attempt to test the detector with an open flame or by blowing smoke into it.

Acoustic fault signals via signal generators are only emitted with a delay of a maximum of 24 hours (night suppression) when the fault first occurs and the environment is dark.

How to avoid false alarms

  • A smoke detector triggers an alarm when smoke or dust particles enter the smoke chamber at a certain concentration. This can also occur during renovation work if fine dust is generated by drilling, painting, or sanding and enters the measuring chamber. Therefore, when carrying out renovations, ensure that the smoke detector is removed or temporarily covered during this time.
  • Painted smoke detectors lose their functionality.
  • False alarms can also be triggered if smoke (e.g., from frying) or steam from the kitchen or bathroom enters other rooms equipped with smoke detectors. This can be avoided by, for example, keeping the kitchen door closed while cooking.
  • Disabling the false alarm does not affect the functionality of the device. The smoke detector will then be fully functional again.
  • Should an alarm be triggered, the smoke detector can be silenced using the "mute" button. It is important to ventilate your home thoroughly after pressing the mute button.

What to do if problems occur?

Should the device trigger a seemingly unfounded alarm or beep occasionally, first test the smoke detector. To do this, press the button in the center. If a fault is still indicated, please inform us immediately.

Muting the Minoprotect 3

The red LED on the front of the smoke detector flashes every 46 seconds to indicate that it is activated. In dark environments, the brightness of the LED is reduced. A brief flashing LED signal every 46 seconds indicates that everything is working correctly and the device will reliably warn you of smoke.

Muting the Minoprotect 3

In the event of an unwanted alarm, triggered by kitchen or water vapors, the smoke detector can be silenced for approximately ten minutes using the large central test button. This can be done, for example, with a broom handle. During this time, the red LED will flash about once per second. The smoke detector's sensitivity is also reduced for ten minutes. This time is usually sufficient to ventilate the apartment after heavy steam or smoke. However, the smoke detector remains active during this period. After ten minutes, normal operation with normal sensitivity is restored.

Important instructions

The installation locations for smoke detectors are legally binding and regulated by the application standard DIN 14676. Smoke detectors must therefore not be removed from their original mounting location and installed elsewhere. The purpose of smoke detectors is to detect fires early through smoke development and warn you of the impending danger in time. For your own safety, ensure that your smoke detector is functioning correctly. Painting over, wallpapering over, or covering the smoke detector will cause malfunctions or even device failure. Smoke detectors must not come into contact with aerosols, water, or cleaning agents. Nicotine and insect residue can trigger false alarms. Smoke detectors cannot provide protection if, for example, someone smokes in bed, children play with open flames, or in the event of explosions caused by escaping gas. Remove external dirt with a slightly damp cloth. The installation of smoke detectors can only be one component of a comprehensive fire protection plan. Smoke detectors are not a substitute for any type of insurance. When renovating, please note: Covering the smoke detector can impair its functionality. Painter's tape is recommended for this purpose. Therefore, after all work is completed, be sure to check the smoke detector's functionality: perform a function test and check the accessibility of the smoke entry openings.
